Job Description:

The EMS CPR Instructor is responsible for instructing American Heart Association CPR (BLS) courses. This instructor must be able to lead CPR (BLS) classes with students of various experience and educational backgrounds. This instructor must maintain current knowledge of basic cardiac care in order to effectively meet the training needs of students, who may have much more clinical and educational experience.

EMS CPR Instructor duties include; pre-course preparation, leading classes, managing equipment, and assisting with closing out classes upon completion. Instructors also participate in continuous quality improvement and may assist the EMS Education Manager in program development and special projects. Regions hospital EMS Instructors must maintain certifications at or above the level they are teaching and work actively in their field of expertise. This is a 36 bed unit consisting of all private patient rooms. This is an acuity adjustable unit of critical care patients as well as progressive care/hematology/oncology. Patients requiring critical care services will have medical diagnoses such as respiratory failure, severe infections, gastrointestinal complications, liver failure, renal failure, overdoses and endocrine emergencies and critically ill medical neurology patients (e.g. stroke diagnoses). Progressive care population consists of patient with the above diagnoses, who are not in medical crisis, but require a level of nursing observation and more complex nursing care. Patients requiring specialized care for hematology/oncology needs may include but are not limited to those requiring chemotherapy, biotherapy, supportive care including neutropenic isolation, and surgical interventions such as mastectomy.

Job Description:

Nurses working on this 36-bed CICU/Telemetry unit deliver care to adult and geriatric patients with medical and surgical cardiac conditions. This unit serves a diverse and complex medical population. The usual types of patients seen on this floor include those with acute and chronic medical conditions such as CABG, Vascular, and Cardiac Telemetry. This unit will have a total capacity of 36 beds, of which 16 will be acuity adaptable to accommodate the CV surgical patients, 12 rooms will be ICU capable to accommodate the medical cardiac patient, and 8 rooms will be telemetry capable.

Additional Information:

Completion of accredited associate, baccalaureate or master's degree program. Licensed as a registered nurse by the State of Minnesota, CPR for the professional rescuer or BLS for healthcare providers required and every two years thereafter, competency in CPR.

Position requires a minimum of 1 year prior ICU RN experience.

Job Description:

Post anesthesia nursing care is a specialty area for critical care nurses. All post anesthesia care unit (PACU) nurses come to this area after spending a minimum of six months working in intensive care nursing. PACU nursing is fast-paced, in that the patients typically stay in PACU after surgery for 60 to 90 minutes.

PACU nursing entails the basics: Airway, Breathing, and Circulation. Other responsibilities such as labs, pain management orders, imaging orders, and surgery-specific assessments are also done. After arriving from the operating room, the PACU RN focuses on ensuring that the patient is adequately breathing, hemodynamically stable within pre-operative limits, has adequate pain management, and symptoms of nausea are controlled or absent.

Additional Information:

PACU nursing requires at least one year of critical care experience, as any patient may need ventilator support or hemodynamic interventions; Regions PACU also cares for many intensive care patients after surgery but before returning to the intensive care unit. Other patients that are cared for in the PACU are day-surgery patients and patients being admitted to the hospital for post-surgical care.

Fellowship Program Description:

Regions Hospital, located in St. Paul, Minnesota, is home to a post-graduate psychiatric fellowship
program for Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners. The goal of the program is to train
Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners in the field of Psychiatry and to provide a strong
didactic and experiential background in providing medical care to psychiatrically ill patients.
The program is 12 months in duration and emphasizes differential diagnosis using DSM IV,
Psychopharmacology, Neuroscience, Psychological and Neuropsychiatry Assessment, Emergency
Psychiatry, Addiction Psychiatry, and Forensic Psychiatry. The primary areas of focus are adult
inpatient, crisis, and outpatient services. Additionally, the fellows will receive continued training in
the management of acute and chronic medical conditions.

Admissions Process:
Candidates must be a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program,
and have either a Masters in Physician Assistant Studies or a Master of Science in Nursing or
Doctor of Nursing Practice with a specialty as an Adult or Family Nurse Practitioner. They must
also have current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants
(NCCPA), American Nurses Credential Center (ANCC), or American Academy of Nurse
Practitioners (AANP. Minnesota licensure is required. An interview will be required of all
applicants.

The next fellowship class will start October 2010 and complete the program in September 2011.

Financial Information:
A stipend of $65,000 per year plus benefits is provided. Benefits include medical, optional dental,
life insurance, and paid time off. An allowance is provided to pay for books and additional CME
expenses. A 40 + hour work week is supplemented with call experience and other
educational experiences as scheduled. Housing is not provided and there is no tuition for the
program.
