Regions Hospital is a Level 1 Trauma Center with a very busy Emergency Department. Regions Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program has been recognized both locally and nationally for the expert service it provides to patients in need.

Under the supervision of the EMD staff physician on duty, the SANE RN provides direct care to patients 13 years of age or older who present to the emergency department with a history of sexual assault within the past 120 hours. Patient care includes a history of the assault, assessment and documentation of injuries, completion of a forensic evidentiary exam, sexually transmitted disease risk assessent and prevention, pregnancy risk assessment and prevention and acute crisis evaluation and intervention. The SANE RN consults with the medical provider, including review of the exam findings & planned treatment. This position documents the history and physical exam findings in the patient's emergency department record and if needed, testifies to exam findings in court. The SANE RN assesses follow up needs and provides information and makes community referrals as needed.

Qualifications:

Graduation from an approved nursing, medical or PA school. Must possess a valid license as an RN, MD or PA issued by the State of Minnesota. Six months of professional experience within the past two years; experience in emergency care, psychiatry or OB/GYN preferred.

In collaboration with, and under the direction of the Nurse Manager/Supervisor, the Charge Nurse is responsible for several key functions. These include: matching competent caregivers with a patient assignment, flexing staffing to meet the volume and acuity needs of the unit, being the point of contact for physician and family interactions, managing the flow of patient activity on the unit and creating and sustaining a healing environment consistent with BCBE and Healthy Workplace standards. The Charge Nurse exercises independent judgment in the daily performance of their duties when giving work direction. She/he may address staff performance issues by providing real time coaching, counseling, mentoring and role modeling. The Charge nurse will also provide direct patient care.

Two (2) years experience in area of specialty at 0.8 FTE, or above (minimum of 3328 hours).

Ability to match competent caregivers with a patient assignment.

Knowledge of current nursing practices and techniques. Utilizes this knowledge in daily decision making (e.g. Care assignments).

Ability to manage the flow of patient activity on the unit.

Understands basic concepts of flex staffing to meet work volumes and acuity demands.

Additional Information:

Licensed as a registered nurse by the State of Minnesota.
Certifications as required by the unit and the general RN CBJD (CPR, ACLS, etc.).
Clinical certification in area of specialty strongly preferred.

Completion of accredited program in nursing. Baccalaureate degree in nursing (or related degree per policy RH HR NS 30 72) strongly preferred.
